A Commitment to Mentoring the Youth of Westborough
The money was super helpful, but it was so much more than that. Through the scholarship, I was assigned a great pair of mentors who changed my life. I have gained so much through the program. If there is a kid like me out there somewhere in Westborough, they deserve an opportunity to make the best of this as well.
Our Mission
Cultivating the academic, personal and civic-minded development of promising Westborough students through community mentorship and ongoing financial support.
Founded in 1995, the Charlotte Spinney Vision Scholarship is awarded to eligible students in Westborough who, for any number of reasons, would greatly benefit from the extra financial and mentoring support. Charlotte Spinney was a beloved and dedicated educator who taught in the Westborough Public Schools for many years. The students who are awarded the scholarship exemplify qualities of honesty, perseverance and integrity.
This program has touched many lives, including both the scholars and their families. They often share with us their joys and gratitude for the support offered through their mentors and the needed financial assistance the program offers. We love to get that feedback along with stories of their successes. We are so proud of our scholars and the work of our mentors who are there to support Spinney Scholar students as they work their way through high school and on to some form of post-secondary education, with many of them attending college.
A Passion for Mentoring
Charlotte Spinney began the foundation in 1995, using her considerable time, talents and resources to invest in students both at Gibbons Middle School and the Westborough High School
Supporting Students with a Strong Mentoring Program and Financial Assistance
The Charlotte Spinney Vision Scholarship Program, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is dependent on private, philanthropic donations. These donations allow us to continue knowing monies are there for future students, as Charlotte had hoped would happen.
To date, over 70 students have benefitted from the CSVS program. A significant number of these students have furthered their education at one of over 18 colleges, including WPI, Worcester State, Syracuse, St. Michaels, Assumption, and numerous UMass entities.
