Preparing the Next Generation: Interview Skills Workshop Recap

In the spirit of continuing Charlotte Spinney’s lifelong passion for student success, Westborough High School students took a big step toward their futures at the Charlotte Spinney Vision Scholars Program (CSVS) Interview Skills Workshop. It was an engaging, high-energy evening packed with practical advice, hands-on learning, and plenty of fun.

Highlights from the Evening:

  • Expert Guidance: Westborough Public Schools HR Director Tammy Costello kicked off the night with a keynote address, sharing key strategies on how to stand out and make a lasting impression during job and internship interviews.
  • Targeted Breakout Sessions: Students split into interactive workshops tailored to their specific career interests – ranging from customer service and non-customer service part-time positions to liberal arts, marketing, and STEM/research internships.
  • Real-World Practice: Putting their newfound tips into action, students participated in 1-on-1 mock interviews with local community volunteers and leaders. This interactive practice gave everyone a chance to share their personal stories, practice answering tough questions, and build real-world confidence.
  • Rewards & Celebration: To cap off the night, students deemed “hired” during their practice sessions were entered into a raffle, with one lucky student walking away with a $500 grand prize!

The evening concluded in the cafeteria, where students, parents, and community mentors gathered to celebrate over awards, free pizza, and dessert.

“This workshop perfectly captures the spirit of Charlotte Spinney,” noted committee members, highlighting how thrilled the late, beloved educator would have been to see so many students taking confident steps toward their goals. Building on this success, the Board looks forward to providing future hands-on learning opportunities that empower local students to gain real-world career and interpersonal skills and achieve their full potential.

A huge thank you to our keynote speaker, breakout leaders, mock interviewers, and community members who made this event possible. To Ava, Gianlucca, and all the students who took a step toward their futures this year – congratulations!
